Sino Engineering Ltd includes energy efficient designs in all new construction projects. Retrofit projects of existing buildings take into account all electrical systems which allows for best overall solutions to maximize energy savings. These include upgrade of lighting systems and controls, electrical calculations for installation of new heat pumps / air conditioning (AC) systems, designs of solar PV systems integrated with existing electrical systems, as well as the latest in the industry Electrical Vehicle (EV) charger systems.
Calculations for available electrical power capacity are performed on a regular basis for all existing facilities wishing to add EV charger systems in their parkades or for adding heat pumps / AC units. Complete electrical studies are done to include all electrical systems with potential for energy savings which lead to a comprehensive analysis of how systems are integrated for best outcome so our clients are maximizing energy savings as well as minimizing capital and long-term operating and maintenance costs. Energy Saving Electrical Studies are also performed for reduction of building GHG emissions through the replacement of natural gas powered mechanical equipment with electrical power source equipment (electrification projects for boilers and hot water tanks). These studies are completed in close coordination with mechanical engineering consultants, so that electrical capacities and necessary electrical system upgrades are reviewed based on specific new mechanical equipment sizes. Such studies require a full review of electrical systems for best building results.
Full engineering design and assistance is provided for coordination with power authorities when electrical service upgrades are required. This includes coordination with the utility company for applicable rebates.

LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS

We provide complete designs for life safety systems for a single structure or a campus consisting of several buildings that need to be interconnected through an underground fire optic cable. LIGHTING SYSTEMS

Up until 2013, fluorescent lighting was the accepted standard in the lighting industry. Starting in 2014, the Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting industry established itself as the new standard in illumination, and professional lighting engineers never looked back again. The quality of lighting and energy savings provided by LED luminaires are superior to antiquated fluorescent lighting due to LED’s precision optics and the smaller required size of light source with the ability to control the light beam with greater precision.
There is a wide range of LED lighting provided in markets today around the world. At Sino Engineering, we specify only the best for our clients. Luminaires that are designed properly make a strong statement in each space when applied correctly. Unfortunately, there are also many LED luminaires that have flooded our markets but do not provide the quality of longevity they claim. Because LED lighting is still a relatively new industry, standards for controlling the quality of LEDs vary considerably between the different manufactures. Lighting regulatory bodies and North American and International certifying laboratories are currently trying to quickly standardize were feasible this fast evolving and extremely promising new technology, all in the effort of protecting the end-user by ensuring that any claim made by lighting producers are trueful and the LED is a safe and reliable product. Despite their extremely intense work in this direction, many sub-standard products have entered the market and, in our opinion, the best protection a client can have is to consult with a certified lighting professional for the purposes of specifying best value lighting that will provide superior optics and will actually last the number of years claimed in the manufacturer's specification. By considering reliable, well-established manufacturers and specifying proven luminaires with good protective warranty years, these are some indicators for being in the right path of selecting a decent lighting system. Properly illuminated stairs, ramps, pathways, parking lots and parkades are a must for every building. In addition, many building owners should be able to address any liability concerns by providing adequate lighting in areas of transition and high activity. Lighting for security is an ever growing requirement for the interior and exterior illumination of many buildings. Lighting for security is specific and takes into consideration many security requirements in addition to general or task illumination as the case may be. Lighting controls play a very big role in the performance of lighting in any building and has a direct relationship with energy savings. Lighting controls are being required more and more these days by each local municipality enforcing compliance with ASHRAE requirements. TELECOMMUNICATIONS
As the Li-Fi technology is still in its early stages, we are hopeful that in the near future it will provide another mainstream method of wireless communication to end-users as a more secure means of wireless connection.

Telecommunication systems are completed based on the latest BICSI TDMM standards as well as other applicable Electrical Code and Authority Having Jurisdiction standards. Structured cabling wiring designs utilize both copper and fiber optic cabling for inside horizontal structures and generally fiber optic for building backbone and campus structured cabling.
One of the benefits of interconnecting campus buildings is that one telephone and internet service in a single building can provide service to the rest of the building via fiber optics and additional wires access points, the internet signal can be further distributed into the entire campus. Similarly, fiber optics cabling is used to connect fire alarm panels in a campus setting, where each building has its own panel. Generally wired in a ring topology, this structure allows for redundancy in case the cable gets damaged somewhere, that way the chances of service interruption are reduced. Connecting buildings into a campus LAN can also be more economical for building owners over the long-term. Structured fiber and copper cabling are terminated in appropriate panels usually housed in dedicated telecom rooms with proper ventilation, especially in large size projects. For smaller projects sometimes these panels are installed in electrical rooms where electro-magnetic interference is not too great and can be tolerated by the system. Power Over Ethernet devices are wired with either copper structured cabling or hybrid fiber cabling. A new emerging technology is the Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) system, which is similar to Wi-Fi. The difference is that Li-Fi provides wireless internet service through LED lighting. For example, if you have an LED light in a room, all you need is a Li-Fi driver powering the LED light and a Li-Fi receiver on your phone or computer and you can have internet service while the light in that room stays on. The LED driver has to be connected to the internet service that comes into the building. PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEMS

Speaker system can be installed for simple public address function and / or for fire alarm notification purposes. Considering the intelligibility requirements of a speaker system installation, a proper design has to consider room geometry and materials. Although a proper investment in purchasing the speaker system from a reliable quality proven manufacturer is a step one to ensuring intelligibility. Different types of speakers can be suitable in different applications as well.
Speaker zones and controls are usually determined as related to room / area / building functions. Speaker controls for fire alarm systems are included in the Central Alarm and Control Facility (CACF) which is accessed by the fire department upon response onsite to be able to address all occupants in case of afire. In addition to emitting alarm signals, automatic messages can be generated to assist people with evaluating buildings. Whereas speaker controls for designated public address only can be located at a central operations location where messages are distributed from. Speaker system complete with subwoofer for retail area and for playing music come in different shapes and colors (cylinder, cone, pendants) to suit the aesthetics and technical requirements for the area being served and the quality of sound desired.
